Is Theistic Evolution A More Robust Belief System Than Atheistic Evolution Or Vice Versa?
The honest answer to this question is that Darwinian evolution and all variations on the evolutionary story are clearly just that, STORIES, in essence evolution is a wishful fairy story that only remains in favour because the alternative of creation by God is distasteful to the atheist.
It is demonstrably a false belief system that has been propped up by frauds, lies, misconceptions and MISUNDERSTANDINGS for the past 150 years approximately.
With regard to the Christian Theistic evolutionist, the reasons are less clear, but I believe that they mainly stem from a disbelief of the inerrancy of scripture and a belief that "science" is superior to the Bible; which is demonstrably an incorrect view of reality and God breathed scripture.
There is no real conflict between science and believing what the Bible says. This is powerfully evidenced by the numbers of practicing/publishing working scientists in a broad range of specialist fields around the world who are Bible believing Christians and who accept that God created everything that exists in six literal 24 hour days just as the Bible plainly tells us.
These scientist’s specialist fields range from medical researchers, nuclear physicists, geneticists, geologists, engineers, biochemists, astronomers, horticulturalists, meteorologists, neuroscientists, brain surgeons, and even rocket scientists and list goes on and on.
The conflict between the Bible and science is a mental construct based on flawed thinking, wrong assumptions and an inability to believe what the Bible plainly teaches.

Of course, proponents of macroevolution believe that all species today came from a common ancestor. However, what was the origin of that common ancestor? Being intensely skeptical as to the feasibility of abiogenesis, I would say that the explanation for the origin of life is one thing that makes theistic evolution more robust than atheistic evolution (although both systems fail in different ways, as @Jacob pointed out).
At the moment evolutionists are reluctant in saying that species A should be giving rise species B. If that was so, than it means that there were species already present before slight modifications by evolution can occur
Both atheistic and Theistic evolution have their own set of problems. Atheistic evolution fails right from the get-go; at the ultimate origin of the universe. Theistic evolution, get's past the ultimate origin, but fails due to incompatibility with scripture, the very reason to accept the belief system in the first place. Evolution obviously does need God to work, so the only option available to Christians who wish to fit in with the mainstream scientific community is to accept Evolution while simultaneously attempting to accept scripture, a compromise which comes at great cost to the latter.
